Art therapy
The Fountain Therapy Trust offers art therapy, led by psychotherapist Gigi Chan, providing you with even more ways to express emotions and understand your inner self.
Art therapy is a gentle and creative, yet powerful, form of therapy that helps people express emotions and experiences that may be difficult to put into words.
No previous experience is necessary and all materials are provided within the session, enabling you to use drawings, paintings or collages, coupled with talking therapy, to explore your emotions in a safe and supported environment. In fact, many people find the creative process allows feelings to come forward naturally, helping them understand themselves more clearly.
Art therapy is particularly beneficial for anyone who has experienced trauma, or may experience learning, speech or hearing difficulties — making this alternative form of expression easier to navigate through colour, shapes and images.

Gigi Chan
Psychotherapist, MA, HCPC-Art Therapist
"By responding through art rather than just words, I support clients in a gentle, non-intrusive way. Creativity is deeply personal, so I encourage people to find the method that feels right for them — whether it’s quiet drawing, mixed media, expressive movement or playful creativity. The goal is always to create a safe, respectful and empowering space."
Gigi is a professionally-trained and Health and Care Professions Council registered (HCPC) art therapist who has more than 15-years of counselling experience, and has spent more than four years specialising in art therapy.
With an MA in Art Therapy and Creative Arts and Mental Health, she's worked in various settings — including education, hospitals and community organisations — and also runs a private practice offering both in-person and online therapy grounded in Psychodynamic theory.
Her diverse experience has deepened her understanding of the different ways people express themselves and how creative processes can facilitate healing.
Gigi's also a member of the British Association of Art Therapists (BAAT) and has an enhanced DBS for peace of mind.

In art therapy sessions, you can choose to create using the art materials provided, talk or a combination, based on what feels right for you. There is no right or wrong way to approach it.
Some people find that art relaxes them, while others use it as a way to express feelings they've kept inside for some time — meaning art therapy is a space for reflection without pressure to immediately explain. Step-by-step you can explore this with your therapist, often discovering new feelings, memories, strengths or insights you might not have noticed before. Such revelations support healing and contribute to personal growth.
During sessions, your art therapist creates art alongside you; the shared creative process building trust and connection as equals. But, the materials, pace and way you choose to express yourself is always led by you.
Over time, through regular weekly sessions, the artwork becomes a visual record of your journey, creating opportunities to see where changes in emotion, self-awareness and confidence has emerged.
